ON-CAMPUS WORK AND AFFILIATIONS
Louisiana State University
The Manship School of Mass Communication
While at LSU, I pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Business Administration. I graduated from The Manship School of Mass Communication in three years having earned a place on the Dean's List each year and also achieved a Distinguished Communicator Certification, a prestigious recognition highlighting my work toward growing and developing my communication skills both inside and outside the classroom.
As an active participant in campus life, I gained valuable hands-on experience as an entertainment reporter at the university newspaper and held officer and committee positions in the following organizations:
- LSU Distinguished Communicator Certification
-
NABJ LSU Charter Member
-
LSU Manship Ambassadors Communications Committee
-
PRSSA
-
NSCS
Public Relations and Media Manager
LSU NABJ (previously The Association of Black Communicators)
Jan 2019 - Sept 2020
As a member of The Association of Black Communicators for three years, I served as the PR Co-chair on the organization's e-board for half that time.
In my position, I ran the organization's Twitter and Instagram accounts, created flyers for print and digital distribution and promoted the club to students at on-campus events. I also worked to find speakers for the meetings that included local news anchors, public relations professionals and authors. Other events we organized included resume, cover letter and professional development workshops. I also created all print and digital content for the meetings and events, examples of which you can see below.
I was also the head of both of the organization's relaunches creating new logos, digital branding materials and websites.
We first rebranded the organization in 2019 as The Association of Black Communicators. After doubling membership in a year, in 2020, we received LSU's Student Organization of the Year award days after gaining the qualifications to charter the organization as the first student-affiliated chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists on LSU's campus. Due to COVID-19, I continued helping the board after graduation and spearheaded the rebranding efforts as the organization made the transfer from ABC to LSU NABJ. I produced new logos, branding materials and a new website. Below you can see a comparison of the old and new logos, flyers and social media posts.
LSU Res Life
Resident Assistant
LSU Residential Life (operating under LSU Residential Hall Association)
Aug 2019 - May 2020
LSU Residential Life is another brand I represented as a specially selected resident assistant for the LSU Honors College.
My responsibilities included ensuring my resident's well-being and acting as a direct line of communication between them and LSU Residential Life. I also worked with my fellow RA's to plan, market and execute hall and building events.
I had 36 freshman girls on my assigned hall that I worked with to ensure a smooth transition from high school to college. I also created graphics for events to post on the building's Instagram account and print flyers for specific events I organized on my assigned hall.
Below are a few of the flyers and social media graphics I created for my hall and building events.
Manship Ambassadors
Manship Ambassador
LSU Ambassadors (LSU Manship School of Mass Communication)
May 2019 - May 2020
As a Manship Ambassador, I led tours through the school for prospective students, spoke at events on behalf of the school and worked Manship programs.
Being a Manship Ambassador gave me a chance to put my verbal communication skills into practice. Speaking to future communicators about communication showed me just how important it is to be able to connect with your audience.
As an ambassador, I was the face of something bigger than myself, and my actions were always representative of the Manship brand. This position let me demonstrate that I have the ability to responsibly represent a brand.
"The Manship Ambassadors are a select group of students in the Manship School of Mass Communication who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in academics and student leadership. This team of mass communication majors will present a positive image of the school and its students through internal and external events and activities. They will receive training and many other opportunities to develop their leadership and communication skills. Being selected as a Manship Ambassador is an honor and a distinction in the Manship School." - LSU Manship School of Mass Communication
Entertainment Reporter
Entertainment Reporter
LSU Reveille (previously known as The Daily Reveille at LSU)
Jan 2018 - Sept 2018
I worked as an entertainment reporter at the award-winning Reveille newspaper at LSU. I wrote over 40 pieces for the entertainment section that included features on local business owners and reviews on books, films and television shows.
Working for the Reveille helped develop my understanding of AP Style and news writing as it was my first job in communications. The position helped me make the transition from academic writing to professional media writing.
